2017 WWE TLC PPV PARTICIPANTS’ HISTORY

Like I do every month, I decided to write a special blog looking at this year’s WWE TLC Pay-Per-View and each participants’ records and other facts. For the full history of the TLC Pay-Per-View, check out TLC History page on the site HERE & for a list of every Tables, Ladders, Chairs, & TLC Match, click HERE.

This will be the 1st TLC PPV since 2014 that there will not be a WWE or Universal Championship Match. Like 2014, the defending Champion, Brock Lesnar is not contracted to compete at TLC. This will be the 1st time since 2012 that the Tag Team Championship will not be defended. This will be the 1st time in TLC History that the Intercontinental Championship will not be defended at TLC. This will be the 1st TLC in history to have 3 Women’s Matches. This is the 1st TLC since 2013 to have only 1 TLC Match and no other Tables, Ladders, or Chairs Matches.

Since no opening match has been announced, here are the facts about it. The only wrestlers scheduled to compete that have competed in an opening match at a TLC PPV were Kalisto, who competed in an opening match in 2015, & The Shield, who competed in an opening match in 2013, which was also a Handicap Match. If Balor VS Styles opens TLC, AJ Styles will be the 1st wrestler to go from a TLC PPV main event to the following year’s opener. No other match has opened up a TLC PPV & everyone else will be competing in their 1st ever TLC opener.

HISTORY OF TABLES, LADDERS, & CHAIRS MATCHES

This is a special look at every Tables, Ladder, Chairs, & TLC Match in WWE History, prior to WWE TLC 2017 on October 22, 2017. There have been 8 Chairs Matches, 61 Ladder Matches, 61 Tables Matches, & 19 TLC Matches. These are only matches that have been shown on TV or Pay-Per-View, and not live events. The chart below shows every wrestler that has participated in these matches, with how many of each type of match they wrestled in, followed by their Win-Loss Record for those matches, & then their total Win-Loss Records for all matches. Then after that each type of match is listed in chronological order. After that, is a chart showing how many times titles have changed hands in a particular match. Unlike my Hell In A Cell Post, I didn’t list each wrestler’s individual match listings because they are too numerous to mention.

149 wrestlers have participated in 149 matches. Only 2 men have competed in all 4 types of matches, The Big Show & John Cena. The Big Show is the only person to compete in 2 Chairs Matches and win both. No one else has more losses, since everyone else has only competed in 1 Chair Match. Triple H is the only wrestler to never lose in any type of match, as he is 5-0 in Ladder, Tables, & TLC Matches, but he has never participated in a Chairs Match. No one is undefeated in Ladder Matches, but Jeff Hardy has the most wins with 7. Shelton Benjamin has the most losses in Ladder Matches without a win, with 9 losses, and he has only participated in Ladder Matches. Christian has participated in the most Ladder Matches with 14 & has the most losses for a Ladder Match with 11. No one is undefeated in more than 2 Tables Matches, with only Cody Rhodes being 2-0. The most losses for a Tables Match is D-Von Dudley, with 10. Bubba Ray Dudley has competed in the most Tables Matches with 44. CM Punk is undefeated in TLC Matches, with 3 wins, but Edge has the best record out of the most TLC Matches, with 5 wins out of 7 matches. Jeff Hardy has the most losses for a TLC Match with 5. Bubba Ray Dudley also has the best record overall, with 32-15-1, competing in 48 total matches. 13 Divas are on the list, as they have only participated in Ladder & Tables Matches & not Chairs or TLC Matches. Trish Stratus is the only woman to compete in 2 Tables Matches. Carmella, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, & Tamina are the only women to compete in 2 Ladder Matches. Becky Lynch & Natalya are the only women to compete in both a Ladder & Tables Match.

The 1st Chairs Match took place at WWE TLC on December 13, 2009 & featured The Undertaker VS Batista. The most recent Chairs Match took place on February 28, 2017 on Smackdown, when Apollo Crews wrestled Dolph Ziggler. The 1st Ladder Match on TV or Pay-Per-View occurred at WrestleMania 10, when Shawn Michaels wrestled Razor Ramon, on March 20, 1994. The most recent Ladder Match occurred on Smackdown on June 27, 2017 when Carmella wrestled Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, & Tamina. The 1st Tables Match took place at WWF Royal Rumble on January 23, 2000, when The Hardy Boyz wrestled The Dudley Boyz. The most recent Tables Match took place on December 4, 2016, at WWE TLC when Becky Lynch wrestled Alexa Bliss. The 1st TLC Match took place at WWF SummerSlam on August 27, 2000 between Edge & Christian, The Hardy Boyz, & The Dudley Boyz. The most recent TLC Match took place on December 4, 2016, at WWE TLC when Dean Ambrose wrestled AJ Styles. The WWE/World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands the most in a TLC Match, with 4, while the Intercontinental Title has changed hands the most in a Ladder Match 9 times.

HISTORY OF THE HELL IN THE CELL MATCH

In the Pay-Per-View History section of the site, you will see the history of the WWE Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View, which started in 2009. This special blog will look at the actual Hell In A Cell Match that has taken place at all events and those matches’ participants. This is now updated with last year’s results, as well as with a list of all of the matches in chronological order. Also, instead of the wrestler’s records in order of wins & losses, I did it in alphabetical order.

Hell In A Cell has been used at least once a year since it’s debut in 1997. The only year there was no Cell matches was in 2001. The first Hell In A Cell Match took place at WWE In Your House: Badd Blood on October 3, 1997 and featured The Undertaker VS Shawn Michaels. This match also featured the debut of Kane. The 2nd Cell match was the 1st one televised on Monday Night Raw and was the 1st tag team Cell Match, with Steve Austin, in his Cell debut, & The Undertaker, in his 2nd Cell Match, VS Kane & Mankind, in their debuts, on June 15, 1998. The next match, which took place 13 days later, on June 28, 1998, at WWE King of The Ring, is probably the most infamous one, as Mankind, in his 2nd Cell Match, wrestled The Undertaker, in his 3rd Cell Match. 2 months later, on August 24, 1998, we had our 2nd, and to date, last Cell Match on TV, with the 1st Cell Match to not feature The Undertaker, as Mankind, in his 3rd Cell Match, wrestled Kane, in his 2nd Cell Match. This matched ended in a No Contest, which was the only time a Cell Match did not have a winner. Undertaker, in his 4th Cell Match, was next featured in the 1st of only 3 Cell Matches to take place at a WrestleMania, as he faced The Big Boss Man, in his Cell debut, at WrestleMania 15 on March 28, 1999. The next Cell Match was at No Way Out on February 27, 2000, as Triple H, in his Cell debut, wrestled Cactus Jack, in Mick Foley’s 4th Cell Match. That match was the 1st Cell Match where the WWE Title was on the line. Later that year, on December 10, 2000, we had our only 6-Man Cell Match, at WWE Armageddon, which featured Kurt Angle, in his Cell debut, Steve Austin, in his 2nd & 1st since 1998, Triple H in his 2nd Cell Match in the same year, Rikishi, in his Cell debut, The Rock, in his Cell debut, & The Undertaker in his 5th Cell Match.

After a year off, the Cell returned at WWE Judgment Day on May 19, 2002, as Triple H, in his 3rd Cell Match, wrestled Chris Jericho, in his Cell debut. Then, later that year, on October 20, 2002, at WWE No Mercy, the Cell returned as Brock Lesnar, in his Cell debut, wrestled The Undertaker, in his 6th Cell Match. On June 15, 2003, the Pay-Per-View where the Cell was born, returned, as at WWE Bad Blood, Triple H, in his 4th Cell Match, wrestled Kevin Nash, in his Cell debut. The Cell returned a year later at the next Bad Blood Pay-Per-View, when Triple H, in his 5th Cell Match, wrestled Shawn Michaels, in his 2nd & 1st since 1997, in the longest Cell Match in history at 47:26, on June 13, 2004. WWE Bad Blood was replaced by WWE Vengeance, on June 26, 2005, as Triple H, in his 6th Cell Match, wrestled Batista, in his Cell debut, in Triple H’s 3rd year in a row inside the Cell. On December 18, 2005, we had the 2nd Cell Match of the year, as The Undertaker, in his 6th Cell Match, wrestled Randy Orton, in his Cell debut, at WWE Armageddon. At WWE Unforgiven, on September 17, 2006, we had our 1st and only 3-on-2 Handicap Cell Match, as D-Generation X, giving Triple H his 7th Cell Match, & Shawn Michaels, in his 3rd Cell Match, faced The Big Show, & Shane & Vince McMahon, in their Cell debuts. On November 18, 2007, The Undertaker, in his 7th Cell Match, wrestled Batista, in his 2nd Cell Match, at WWE Survivor Series. Next, at WWE SummerSlam on August 17, 2008, The Undertaker, in his 8th Cell Match, wrestled against Edge, in his Cell debut.

In 2009, WWE gave the Cell its own Pay-Per-View, as WWE Hell In Cell began on October 4, 2009. The inaugural event featured 3 Cell Matches, which included The Undertaker, in his 9th Cell Match, VS CM Punk, in his Cell debut, which was the 1st time a Cell Match opened up a Pay-Per-View, John Cena, in his Cell debut, VS Randy Orton, in his 2nd Cell Match, in the 1st Cell Match to not feature either Triple H or Undertaker since Mankind VS Kane in 1998, & in the main event, D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels in his 4th Cell Match & Triple H in his 8th Cell Match), wrestled Legacy of Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes, in their Cell debuts. Also, the 2009 Cell Matches were the 1st time that the WWE & World Titles both changed hands inside the Cell.

The 2010 Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View on October 3 saw 2 Cell Matches, as Randy Orton, in his 3rd Cell Match, wrestled Sheamus, in his Cell debut, & The Undertaker, in his 10th Cell Match, wrestled Kane, in his 3rd Cell Match & 1st since 1998. In 2011, we had 2 Cell Matches, with one that has never been seen by the WWE Universe. On September 26, prior to the 2011 Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View, after Raw went off the air, we had the only 5-Way Cell Match, as John Cena, in his 2nd Cell Match, wrestled CM Punk in his 2nd Cell Match, & Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger, & Dolph Ziggler in their Cell debuts. According to WWE, they count this match in the history of the Cell, but there is no video footage of the match, and only pictures. This was a preview of the following week’s Pay-Per-View on October 2, 2011, as Cena, in his 3rd Cell Match, Del Rio, in his 2nd Cell Match, & Punk, in his 3rd Cell Match, competed in the only Triple Threat Hell In A Cell Match. The other Cell Match featured on the show was Mark Henry, in his Cell debut, VS Randy Orton, in his 4th Cell Match.

In 2012, the Cell was featured twice. For the 2nd time the Cell was featured on WWE’s Biggest Show of the Year, as at WrestleMania 28, on April 1, The Undertaker, in his 11th Cell Match, wrestled Triple H, in his 9th Cell Match. This match would be the final time Triple H has competed inside the Devil’s Playground. The Cell was used later in 2012, at the WWE Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View, on October 28, as CM Punk, in his 4th Cell Match, faced Ryback, in his Cell debut. In 2013, on October 27, CM Punk, in his 5th Cell Match, & Ryback, in his 2nd Cell Match, returned to the Cell, but this time added Paul Heyman to the mix, to make it a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. The other Cell Match in 2013 featured Daniel Bryan, in his Cell debut, & Randy Orton, in his 5th Cell Match, for the Vacant WWE Championship. On October 26, 2014, we saw our 1st ever 2-time Hell In A Cell Match, as John Cena, in his 4th Cell Match, wrestled Randy Orton, in his 6th Cell Match, again inside the Cell for the 1st time since 2009. The 2nd Cell Match in 2014 saw the 1st ever Cell Match since Orton VS Cena in 2009 to feature 2 wrestlers making their Cell debuts, as Dean Ambrose wrestled Seth Rollins.

On October 25, 2015, the Devil’s Playground returned for WWE Hell In A Cell, with 2 Cell Matches. For the 2nd straight year, 2 wrestlers made their Cell debut as Roman Reigns wrestled Bray Wyatt. Then, the 2nd match to take place twice inside the Cell happened, as The Undertaker, in his 1st Cell Match since 2008 & 13th Cell match overall, wrestled Brock Lesnar, in his 2nd Cell Match & 1st since 2002, which was also against The Undertaker.

In 2016, the Cell was brought back for the 3rd time at WrestleMania, as Shane McMahon, in his 2nd time inside the Cell & 1st since 2006, faced off against The Undertaker, competing in his 14th Cell Match, & 2nd straight. The Cell made its 2nd appearance in October at the Hell in A Cell PPV, with 3 Cell Matches taking place, making it the 1st time that 4 Cell Matches took place in the same year. For the 1st time since 2009, a Cell Match opened up a Hell in A Cell PPV, with the 1st ever United States Championship Match contested inside the Cell, as Roman Reigns, in his 2nd Cell Match in a row, wrestled Rusev, in his 1st ever Cell Match. Then, the Universal Title was on the line for the 1st time inside the Cell as Seth Rollins, in his 2nd Cell Match & 1st since 2014, wrestled Kevin Owens, in his Cell debut. Then, in the main event, for the 1st time ever, 2 women competed inside Satan’s Structure, as Sasha Banks defended her Raw Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair, which was the 3rd year in a row that both participants made their Cell debut in the same match.

In 2017, 2 more Cell Matches took place during the Hell In A Cell PPV. For the 1st time ever, Tag Team Championships were decided inside the Hell in A Cell as The New Day wrestled The Usos. It was both members of The New Day, Big E & Xavier Woods, & Jey & Jimmy Uso’s Cell debut, which made it the 4th year in a row that all participants will made their Cell debuts. It was the 4th tag team match to be contested inside the Cell & the 1st since 2009. The Usos joined their father Rikishi, as the 2nd father & son after Vince & Shane McMahon to both compete inside the Hell in A Cell. The other Cell Match saw Shane McMahon, in his 3rd Hell In A Cell & 2nd year in a row, wrestle Kevin Owens, in his 2nd straight Cell Match in a row. It was also the 1st time since 2015 that no WWE or Universal Championships were defended inside the Hell In A Cell.

2017 WWE NO MERCY PARTICIPANTS’ HISTORY

As I do every month, it’s time to look at this weekend’s No Mercy Pay-Per-View and see the history of all of the participants. WWE brought back No Mercy after an 8 year absence, as a Smackdown Exclusive PPV in 2016, but in 2017, it became a Raw PPV. To see the entire 12 year history of No Mercy, visit the No Mercy History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

Since it moved to a Raw PPV, it will be many wrestlers’ No Mercy PPV. The only wrestlers to compete on a previous card that will be competing this year will be Dean Ambrose, Alexa Bliss, John Cena, Jason Jordan, Brock Lesnar, The Miz, & Bray Wyatt.

Since no opening match has been announced, it will be everyone’s 1st No Mercy opener except for John Cena & Dean Ambrose who opened in 2016. If the Tag Team Championship opens, it will be the 1st time since 2002 that a Tag Title Match opened up No Mercy. If the Cruiserweight Championship opens, it will be the 1st time since 2006 that a Cruiserweight Title Match opened up No Mercy. It will be the 1st time opener for everyone else.

NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN III PARTICIPANTS’ HISTORY

Since I do the blogs looking at every Pay-Per-View every month, I thought I would do one looking at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, now that I have NXT Takeover Section here on the site. To see the entire history of Takeover, visit the Takeover History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

Since Tommaso Ciampa, Nikki Cross, Roderick Strong, & Eric Young are not scheduled to compete at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, they no longer have the streak of competing at every Takeover event of 2017, joining The Authors of Pain, Asuka, Johnny Gargano, & Bobby Roode.

Since no opening match has been announced, here are the facts about it. No matter who is in the opening match, it will be the 1st time since Takeover: Brooklyn II on 8/20/16 that it will not feature either Tye Dillinger or Eric Young. The only wrestlers on the card to compete in an opening match is Bobby Roode, who last competed in an opening match at Takeover: Toronto on November 19, 2016, Andrade Almas, who last competed in an opening match at Takeover: The End on June 8, 2016, & Asuka, who last competed in an opening match at Takeover: London on December 6, 2015. If The Authors of Pain or Johnny Gargano compete in the opening match, they will be the 1st wrestler since Finn Balor at Takeover: Brooklyn on August 22 & Takeover: Respect on October 7, 2015 to go from the main event to the following Takeover’s opening match.
