As I do every month, it’s time to look at this weekend’s SummerSlam Pay-Per-View and see the history of all of the participants. As of press time, 13 matches are scheduled, making 2016 the SummerSlam with the most matches in history. Since no main event has been announced, here are the facts about it. If Randy Orton VS Brock Lesnar is the main event, it will be the 10th time that a WWE Championship Match is not the main event of SummerSlam & 2nd year in a row that a WWE Championship Match is not a main event. It will be Lesnar’s 5th SummerSlam main event & 3rd in a row. It will be Orton’s 4th SummerSlam main event & 1st since 2013. If Finn Balor VS Seth Rollins or Dolph Ziggler VS Dean Ambrose is the main event, it will be all wrestlers’ 1st SummerSlam main event. Since no opening match has been announced, here are the facts about it. If the Tag Team Title Match is the opener, it will be the 3rd Tag Team Title Match to open SummerSlam & 1st since 2003 & Kofi Kingston’s 3rd SummerSlam opener & 1st since 2011. If the Intercontinental Title Match is the opener, it will be the 6th Intercontinental Championship Match to open SummerSlam & 1st since 2014 & The Miz’ 3rd SummerSlam opener & 1st since 2014. If the United States Title Match is the opener, then it will be the 2nd United States Title Match to open SummerSlam & 1st since 2005 & will be both Roman Reigns & Rusev’s 1st SummerSlam opener. If the World Championship Match is the opener, then it will be the 1st World Championship Match to open SummerSlam, Ambrose’s 1st SummerSlam opener, & Ziggler’s 5th SummerSlam opener & 1st since 2014.
