2016 CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS PARTICIPANTS’ HISTORY

As I do every month, it’s time to look at this weekend’s Clash of Champions Pay-Per-View and see the history of all of the participants. Even though this is the 1st ever WWE Clash of Champions, it is replacing Night of Champions. This would be similar to Taboo Tuesday becoming Cyber Sunday. Though they haven’t explicitly said that Clash & Night of Champions share the same history, they do share the same logo. If WWE puts Clash in a separate section and not in the Night of Champions Section on WWE Network, then I will not combine the results and records, but until then, I will connect them. To see the entire history of Night of Champions, visit the Night of Champions History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

To make it simple, instead of writing out Clash or Night of Champions for every match, I will write it as C/NOC. Since Clash of Champions is now a Raw Exclusive PPV, it ends the streak of Dolph Ziggler, who competed in 7 straight Night of Champions PPV. Therefore, there is no wrestler that has competed at every C/NOC PPV. This will be the 1st ever C/NOC that the Intercontinental Championship will not be defended. No opening match has been announced. But if the Tag Team Championship Match is the opening match, then it will be Kofi Kingston’s 4th opener & 1st since 2013, the 5th time that the Tag Titles opened up C/NOC & the 1st since 2014. If any of the other title matches open, it will be the 1st time that title opened up C/NOC and the 1st time that any of the wrestlers in the match will compete in the opening match of a C/NOC. The only other wrestler that is scheduled to compete at C/NOC that has competed in an opener before is Chris Jericho, who last competed in an opener in 2009.

The title has changed hands 7th times in total, with the last title change taking place in 2013. This will be the 5th straight year that a World Title is being defended in the main event of C/NOC. This will be Rollins’ 3rd C/NOC PPV, but 4th match since he competed twice in 2015, 2nd World Title match in a row, & 2nd main event in a row. Rollins will be the 1st wrestler since Alberto Del Rio in 2012 & 2013 to compete in back-to-back WWE/World Title Matches. This will be Owens’ 2nd C/NOC in a row, his 1st main event, & 1st World Title Match.
