NXT TAKEOVER: PHILADELPHIA PARTICIPANTS’ TAKEOVER HISTORY

Since no opening match has been announced, here are the facts. If Kassius Ohno VS The Velveteen Dream opens up Takeover, it will be Ohno’s 2nd straight Takeover opener. If the Extreme Rules match between Aleister Black & Adam Cole opens the show, it will be both Black & Cole’s 1st Takeover opener, & Cole will also be the 1st wrestler since Johnny Gargano at Takeover: Chicago on May 20 & Brooklyn on August 19, 2017 to go from the Takeover main event to the following Takeover’s opener. If the Tag Title Match opens up Takeover, it will be the 1st Tag Title Match since American Alpha VS The Revival at Takeover: Dallas on April 1, 2016 to do so & will be The Authors of Pain & The Undisputed ERA’s 1st opener. They will also be the 1st wrestlers since Gargano to compete in the main event & then opener. If the Women’s Title Match opens, it will be the 1st Women’s Title Match ever to open a Takeover, the 1st Women’s Match to open Takeover since Asuka VS Emma at Takeover: London on December 6, 2015, & both Ember Moon & Shayna Baszler’s 1st Takeover opener. If the NXT Title Match opens up Takeover, it will be the 1st ever NXT Championship Match to open up Takeover & Andrade Almas & Johnny Gargano’s 1st opener since their last match at Takeover: Brooklyn III on August 19, 2017.

 

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: JOHNNY GARGANO VS NXT CHAMPION ANDRADE ALMAS

This will be the 16th NXT Championship Match at a Takeover & 11th in a row. The NXT Title has changed hands 8 times including the last 2 consecutive Takeovers. If Almas retains, he would be the 1st wrestler since Bobby Roode at Takeover: San Antonio on January 28, 2017 & Takeover: Orlando on April 1, 2017 to win the title at 1 Takeover & retain it at the following one. If Gargano wins the title, Almas would be the 2nd wrestler in a row, after Drew McIntyre to lose his title in his 1st defense at a Takeover. This will be the 14th out of 18 Takeovers to have a NXT Championship Match as the main event & 1st since Takeover: Brooklyn III on August 19, 2017. This will be Gargano’s 7th Takeover & 1st since Takeover: Brooklyn & 1st ever NXT Title Match. It will be Gargano’s 2nd Takeover main event & 1st since Takeover: Chicago on May 20, 2017. This will be Almas’ 7th Takeover & 3rd in a row, & 2nd NXT Title Match in a row. It will be Almas’ 1st ever Takeover main event. They will tie The Authors of Pain, also competing in their 7th Takeover match, for the most Takeover matches for anyone on the current NXT roster. This will be the 11th match to take place at multiple Takeovers & the 1st to not take place in the same year.

This will be the 18th straight Women’s Championship Match at a Takeover, continuing the streak of the only title to be defended at every Takeover. The NXT Women’s Title has changed hands 5 times, with the last title change taking place at the last Takeover, Takeover: War Games on November 18, 2017. This will be Ember Moon’s 5th Takeover & 3rd in a row & 4th NXT Women’s Title Match in a row, but she didn’t compete at Takeover: Chicago on May 20, 2017. This will be Shayna Baszler’s Takeover debut & 1st Women’s Title Match. She will be the 2nd wrestler in a row after Kairi Sane at Takeover: War Games to make their Takeover debut competing in a Women’s Title Match. This will be the 1st Takeover since Drew McIntyre at Takeover: Brooklyn III on August 19, 2017 that only 1 wrestler will be making their Takeover debut.

This will be Akam & Rezar’s 7th Takeover in a row, giving them the most consecutive Takeover matches for anyone on the current NXT roster.
