2020 EXTREME RULES’ PPV PARTICIPANTS HISTORY

As I do every month, it’s time to look at this weekend’s Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View and see the history of all of the participants. WWE is calling it The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, but I will refer to it as just Extreme Rules, for simplicity. To see the entire 9-year history of Extreme Rules, visit the Extreme Rules History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

This will be the 2nd PPV in a row to not have an Intercontinental Championship Match & the 1st Extreme Rules since 2015 to not have one. This will be the 3rd PPV in a row to not have a Raw Tag Team Championship Match & the 1st Extreme Rules since 2016 to not have a Raw Tag Team Title Match. This will be the 1st PPV since Money In The Bank on May 10 to not have a Women’s Tag Team Championship Match, which has yet to be defended at an Extreme Rules. This will be the 1st Extreme Rules since 2012 to not feature Roman Reigns, ending a streak of 7 Extreme Rules in a row which was the most in History. Though there will be a Swamp Fight & an Eye For An Eye Match, which are No Disqualifications & No Count Outs, this will be the 1st Extreme Rules PPV in History to not have an Official Extreme Rules Match on the show.

Since no Kickoff Match has been announced, here are the facts about it. It will be the 14th Kickoff Match in Extreme Rules History & 12th year in a row. If there is only 1 match, it will be the 1st time since 2017. If there is a Gimmick Match, it will be the 4th Gimmick Match to be on the Kickoff Show & the 1st since a Tables Match in 2018. If it is a Title Match, then it will be the 4th Title Match on the Kickoff Show & the 2nd year in a row. The only titles to be defended on the Kickoff Show is the United States Title in 2012, & the Intercontinental & Cruiserweight Titles in 2019. The only title to change hands on a Kickoff Show is the Intercontinental Title in 2019 when Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Finn Balor. The only wrestlers on the roster to compete in a Kickoff Match are Drew Gulak & Tony Nese (2019), Shinsuke Nakamura (2019), Big E (2018), Kofi Kingston (2010 & 2018), Andrade (2018), Kalisto (2017), King Corbin (2016), & The Miz (2012 & 2013).

Since no Opening Matches have been announced, here are the facts. If a Gimmick Match opens Extreme Rules, it will be the 9th Gimmick Match to open an Extreme Rules & 2nd year in a row. If a Title Match opens, it will be the 3rd Title Match to open an Extreme Rules & the 1st since a Tag Team Title Match in 2018. The US Title opened in 2009. No Women’s Match has ever opened an Extreme Rules. The only wrestlers to compete in an Extreme Rules opener are Drew McIntyre (2019), Bray Wyatt (2018), & MVP (2009 & 2010), giving MVP the most opening matches in Extreme Rules History.

Since no Main Events were announced, here are the facts for it. If a Gimmick Match is the main event, it will be the 10th Gimmick Match to main event Extreme Rules & the 1st since Seth Rollins VS Dolph Ziggler in an Iron Man Match in 2018. If it is a Title Match, it will be the 8th Title Match & 2nd year in a row. If it is a Non-Title Match, it will be the 4th Non-Title Match to main event Extreme Rules & the 1st since a Fatal 5-Way #1 Contender’s Match in 2017. The only wrestlers to compete in the main event are Seth Rollins (2015, 2017-2019), making him the only wrestler to compete in 4 Extreme Rules main events & the only one to compete in 4 main events in a row, Dolph Ziggler (2018), Bray Wyatt (2017), & Jeff Hardy (2009).

Nakamura would be his 3rd Tag Team Championship Partner after Tyson Kidd & Sheamus & Nakamura would be the 1st wrestler since Shane McMahon at the Royal Rumble on January 27, 2019 to be a 1st time Tag Team Champion.
