to36

Since I do the blogs looking at every Pay-Per-View every month, I thought I would do one looking at NXT Takeover 36. To see the entire history of Takeover, visit the Takeover History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

This will be the 1st Takeover since War Games IV on December 6, 2020 to have only 1 Women’s Match. It will be the 1st Takeover since War Games III on November 23, 2019 to not have a North American Championship Match. It will be the 1st Takeover since Vengeance Day on February 14, 2021 to not have a NXT Tag Team Championship Match. This will be the 2nd Takeover in a row to not have a NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match or a NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match. This will be the 1st Takeover since they debuted that MSK will not be wrestling, the 1st since she returned at War Games IV on December 6, 2020 that Ember Moon will not be wrestling, & the 1st since War Games III on November 23, 2019 that Johnny Gargano will not be wrestling, ending his streak at 8 Takeovers, but he is still Mr. Takeover with 23 Takeover events. This was the 1st Takeover since Takeover 31 on October 4, 2020 to not have a Tag Team Match.

Since no opening match has been announced, here are the facts. If it is the Women’s Championship Match, it will be Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai’s 4th opener, with their last being at Vengeance Day on February 14, 2021. It would be the 1st Women’s Match to open Takeover since Vengeance Day on February 14, 2021, but the 1st ever Women’s Title Match to open Takeover. If it is the Million Dollar Championship Match, it will be both Cameron Grimes & LA Knight’s 1st ever Takeover opener. If it’s the 2 Out of 3 Falls Match, it will be Kyle O’Reilly’s 6th Takeover opener, which is the most of All-Time, & 1st since Toronto on August 10, 2019, & Adam Cole’s 2nd Takeover opener & 1st since New Orleans on April 7, 2018 & would be the 1st ever 2 Out of 3 Falls Match to open Takeover. If the NXT UK Championship Match opens, it will be the 1st ever UK Championship Match to open Takeover & both Ilja Dragunov & WALTER’s 1st Takeover opener.

Since no main event has been announced, here are the facts. If it is the NXT Championship Match, it will be the 26th time that an NXT Championship Match was the main event of Takeover & 2nd Takeover in a row. It would be Karrion Kross’ 3rd Takeover main event & 2nd in a row, making him the 2nd wrestler in a row after Adam Cole to be in 2 Takeover main events in a row. It would be Samoa Joe’s 6th Takeover main event & 1st since Toronto on November 19, 2016, which would tie Finn Balor for 4th of All-Time after Adam Cole (10), Johnny Gargano (9), Tommaso Ciampa & Kyle O’Reilly (7). If it is the 2 Out of 3 Falls Match, then it will be the 1st Non-Title Match to main event Takeover since the Unsanctioned Match between Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole at Stand & Deliver on April 8 & the 10th time. It would be Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly’s 3rd Takeover main event in a row, making them the 1st since Cole at Toronto (8/10/19), War Games III (11/23/19), & Portland (2/16/20) to be in 3 Takeover main events in a row. It would be Cole’s 11th main event, which is the most of All-Time & O’Reilly’s 8th main event, which is the 3rd of All-Time after Cole & Johnny Gargano (9).

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: SAMOA JOE VS NXT CHAMPION KARRION KROSS

This will be Karrion Kross’ 5th Takeover & 3rd in a row. He will be the 2nd NXT Champion in a row after Finn Balor to wrestle in 3 NXT Championship Matches in a row a Takeover. If he wins, he would be the 1st since Adam Cole at Takeover 25 (6/1/19), Toronto (8/10/19), & Portland (2/16/20) to win the NXT Championship & then defend the title at 2 Takeovers in a row, but Cole didn’t defend at War Games (11/23/19), so he would be the 1st since Bobby Roode at San Antonio (1/28/17), Orlando (4/1/17), & Chicago (5/20/17) to do it in 3 straight Takeovers. This will be Karrion Kross’ 4th NXT Championship Defense, so if he would lose, he would be the 1st since Seth Rollins who lost to Big E Langston on NXT on January 9, 2013 to lose in his 4th Defense.
