2022 NXT DEADLINE PREVIEW

deadline

Like I do every month, I decided to write a special blog looking at NXT Deadl1ne. Since NXT has not referred to this event as an NXT Takeover, I will count it as the 1st ever standalone Deadl1ne event, therefore all of the facts will be redundant, but I did it to be consistent. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718). Thanks.

NXT Deadl1ne is the 5th NXT PPV of 2022, making Bron Breakker & Carmelo Hayes the only wrestlers to wrestle on every NXT PPV of 2022. It will be the 1st NXT PPV of 2022 to not have an NXT Women’s Championship Match & the 1st since NXT War Games on December 5, 2021 to not have one. This will be the 1st NXT PPV of 2022 to not have an NXT North American Championship Match & the 1st since NXT War Games on December 5, 2021 to not have one. This will be the 2nd NXT PPV in a row to not have an NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match.

Since no opener has been announced & since this is the 1st ever Deadl1ne, it will be everyone’s 1st Deadl1ne opener.

Since no main event has been announced, here are the facts. If the NXT Championship Match is the main event, it will be the 1st NXT Championship Match to main event Deadl1ne, Bron Breakker’s 1st Deadl1ne main event & 5th NXT PPV main event in a row in 2022 & would be Apollo Crews’ 1st ever Deadl1ne main event & 1st NXT PPV main event of 2022. If an Iron Survival Challenge Match main events, it will be everyone’s 1st Deadl1ne main event, JD McDonagh’s 2nd NXT PPV main event in a row in 2022, Joe Gacy’s 2nd & 1st since In Your House on June 4, & everyone else’s 1st ever main event of 2022. It would be the 1st time in 2022 that the NXT Championship would not be defended in the main event, the 1st NXT PPV since War Games on December 6, 2021 that the NXT Championship wasn’t defended in the main event, but the 1st time that the NXT Championship was defended on PPV & not in the main event since Finn Balor VS Karrion Kross at NXT Stand & Deliver on April 8, 2021. If the Women’s Iron Survival Challenge main events, it will be the 1st time a Women’s Match has main evented an NXT PPV since Io Shirai VS Raquel Gonzalez on Night 1 of Stand & Deliver on April 7, 2021, & everyone’s 1st Deadl1ne main event & 1st main event of 2022.

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: NXT CHAMPION BRON BREAKKER VS APOLLO CREWS

Bron Breakker VS Apollo Crews was the 16th NXT Championship Match of 2022, the 1st since NXT on November 15, & 5th PPV in a row, making it the only NXT Championship to be defended on every NXT PPV of 2022. This will be Bron Breakker’s 1st Deadl1ne & 5th NXT PPV in a row in 2022. This was Bron Breakker’s 10th NXT Championship Defense, so if he loses, he will tie Adrian Neville for the 2nd most NXT Championship Defenses, behind Adam Cole (11). As of Deadl1ne, Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship Reign has lasted 250 Days, so if he would have lost, he would have been the 1st to lose in 250 Days, which is the 5th Longest of All-Time, behind Adam Cole (6/1/19 – 7/8/20, 403 Days), Finn Balor’s 1st Reign (7/4/15 – 4/21/16, 292 Days), Adrian Neville (2/27/14 – 12/11/14, 287 Days), & Bo Dallas (6/12/13 – 2/27/14, 260 Days). This will be Apollo Crews’1st Deadl1ne & his 2nd NXT PPV in a row. It will be his 1st NXT Championship Match since he defeated then-Champion Finn Balor by Disqualification on November 4, 2015. If he wins, he would be the 1st 1st-time Champion since Dolph Ziggler & the 6th to also be a former United States & Intercontinental Champion after Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, & Dolph Ziggler. This will be the 1st ever NXT Championship Match to main event Deadl1ne, Bron Breakker’s 1st Deadl1ne main event, but 5th NXT PPV main event in a row & will be Apollo Crews’ 1st ever Deadl1ne main event & 1st NXT PPV main event of 2022. The NXT Championship has changed hands twice in 2022, with the last title change taking place when Breakker defeated Dolph Ziggler on Raw on April 4. It has changed hands 27 times in History. It has never changed hands at Deadl1ne.

NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: THE NEW DAY (KOFI KINGSTON & XAVIER WOODS) VS NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS PRETTY DEADLY (ELTON PRINCE & KIT WILSON)

The New Day VS Pretty Deadly will be the 15th NXT Tag Team Championship Match of 2022, 1st since NXT on November 22, & 1st on PPV since Worlds Collide on September 4. This will be Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods’ Deadl1ne debut, Kingston’s 1st NXT match since he defeated Rusev on January 15, 2014 & was Woods’ 1st NXT match since he lost to CJ Parker on August 7, 2014, & will be their 1st Tag Team Match together in NXT. If they win, they will be the 1st 1st-time Champion since The Creed Brothers, but the 4th team after American Alpha, The Revival & The Street Profits to be RAW, Smackdown, & NXT Tag Team Champions, but Chad Gable & Jason Jordan only held the NXT & Smackdown Tag Team Championships together. They had different partners when they won the Raw Tag Team Championships (Gable with Otis & Jordan with Seth Rollins). This was Elton Prince & Kit Wilson’s 1st Deadl1ne & their 1st PPV since Worlds Collide on September 4. This was Pretty Deadly’s 6th NXT Tag Team Championship Defense, so if they will lose, they will be the 1st since The Ascension who lost to The Lucha Dragons at Takeover: Fatal 4 Way on September 11, 2014 to lose in their 6th Defense, which is tied for the 2nd most Defenses after MSK (8). As of Deadline, Pretty Deadly’s NXT Tag Team Championship Reign has lasted 97 Days, so if they will lose, they will be the 1st to lose in 97 Days. The NXT Tag Team Title has changed hands 3 times in 2022, with the last title change taking place at Worlds Collide when Pretty Deadly defeated Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen, The Creed Brothers, & Gallus on September 4. It has changed hands 28 times in History. It has never changed hands at Deadl1ne.
