2024 NXT VENGEANCE DAY PREVIEW

2k24vd

Like I do every month, I decided to write a special blog looking at NXT Vengeance Day. To see the entire history of Vengeance Day, visit the Vengeance Day History HERE. And for any feedback or comments about this, comment below or tweet me (@hbkid718).

This will be the 1st Vengeance Day to not have an NXT Tag Team Championship Match & the 1st PPV of 2024 to not have one. This will be 2nd Vengeance Day in a row to not have a Heritage Cup Championship Match & the 1st PPV of 2023 to not have one.

This will be the 1st NXT PPV since Battleground on May 28, 2023 to not have a Kickoff Match.

Since no opener was announced, here are the facts. The only wrestler on the card to wrestle in a Vengeance Day opener is Dijak (2023). The only Championship to be defended in a Vengeance Day opener is the North American Championship (2023).

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: NXT CHAMPION ILJA DRAGUNOV VS TRICK WILLIAMS

Ilja Dragunov VS Trick Williams will be the 1st NXT Championship Match of 2024, 1st since Deadl1ne on December 9, 2023, & 2nd in a row at Vengeance Day. This will be Ilja Dragunov’s 1st Vengeance Day, making it the 2nd year in a row that someone made their Vengeance Day debut defending the NXT Championship, his 1st match overall since he wrestled Ridge Holland to a No Contest on NXT on December 19, 2023 & 1st PPV since he defeated Baron Corbin at Deadl1ne on December 9, 2023. This will be Ilja Dragunov’s 4th NXT Championship Defense, so if he loses, he will be the 1st since Karrion Kross who lost to Samoa Joe at Takeover 36 on August 22, 2021 to lose in his 4th Defense. As of Vengeance Day, Ilja Dragunov’s NXT Championship Reign has lasted 127 Days, so if he loses, he will be the 1st to lose in 127 Days. This will be the 1st time that Trick Williams has wrestled twice on PPV in his Career, making him the 1st wrestler since Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, Samoa Joe, & Rhyno at Takeover Respect on October 7, 2015 to wrestled twice on NXT PPV. It will be his 1st 1-on-1 Match on PPV since he defeated Dominik Mysterio at No Mercy on September 30, 2023. If Trick Williams wins, he will be the 3rd 1st-time Champion in a row. This will be the 3rd 1-on-1 Match between them after NXT on February 21, 2023 & August 22, 2023, which were both won by Dragunov. This was the 2nd year in a row that the NXT Championship will be the main event of Vengeance Day & was both Ilja Dragunov & Trick Williams’ 1st Vengeance Day main event & their 1st PPV main event of 2024. The NXT Championship has never changed hands in 2024, with the last title change taking place when Dragunov defeated Carmelo Hayes at No Mercy on September 30, 2023.
